Stories of the Historic Buildings
The Francke Foundations look back on a unique history. One of Germany's most important educational institutions in the 18th century, they were preserved in an extraordinary rescue operation after reunification in 1990. Thanks to great commitment, the historic architecture shines again today. Discover history and the present day on an online walk through the grounds!

Time Witness Tour
The architecture of the foundations is not only unique, it also evokes memories for many people of a time when reconstruction seemed uncertain, yet many had the courage to tackle the task. With a new virtual tour, this history can now be experienced up close: in digital flipbooks with a before-and-after effect, with augmented reality (AR), with exciting information, iconic images and personal stories.

Digital Stories
The »Thalsaline«. Halle and Salt around 1700
We have recorded the boiling hut models from our chamber of wonders, from the roof to the foundations, point by point, and transformed them into an interactive 3D model that visualises the process of salt production. With numerous sources and fascinating detailed information, the digital story embeds the models in the history of salt production in Halle.

The Privilege
The Francke Foundations were established with the ‘Chur-Fürstlich-Brandenburgische Privilegium’ (Privilege of the Prince-Bishop of Chur and Brandenburg) of 19 September 1698. But what exactly did this document say, and what does the term ‘privilege’ mean? Take a look at this valuable document and explore its influence, which continues to this day.
